He pushed for them to immediately join the WCC as an upward move and then became the AD in 1981. When his handpicked successor didn't work out, he took the head coaching duties back over from 1985-1997.

  5. Gonzaga Alumnus here. It is a fantastic school, and Spokane is a decent place to live. There are areas to the north and east of the campus that are sketchy. I never had any serious altercations in my time there. There are a lot of vagrants in the areas adjacent to campus, but nothing on the order of Seattle or Olympia.
