The Province of Pomerania ( German: Provinz Pommern; Polish: Prowincja Pomorze) was a province of Prussia from 1815 to 1945. Pomerania was established as a province of the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815, an expansion of the older Brandenburg-Prussia province of Pomerania, and then became part of the German Empire in 1871.
The history of Pomerania starts shortly before 1000 AD, with ongoing conquests by newly arrived Polan rulers. Before that, the area was recorded nearly 2000 years ago as Germania, and in modern times Pomerania has been split between Germany and Poland. Its name comes from the Slavic po more, which means "(land) at the sea".

The land looks surprisingly like Minnesota and Wisconsin. Many Pomeranians chose the Midwest for their new homes in the 1840’s and 1860's. Pomerania was scraped by glaciers thousands of years ago. The sandy ground left behind was good for growing rye and potatoes. Parts of Pomerania joined with Prussia in 1648, 1720, and 1815.
It depends on whether 'Prussia' means the region, so East and West Prussia and nothing else, or the state, which was eventually much larger than the region. Both are perfectly valid definitions and they coexisted for all of the latter's history - I imagine when people spoke of Preußen it was clear enough from context which was referred to.
