Key points. J.J. Thomson's experiments with cathode ray tubes showed that all atoms contain tiny negatively charged subatomic particles or electrons. Thomson's plum pudding model of the atom had negatively-charged electrons embedded within a positively-charged "soup."
In order to understand better the development of the electron micro-scope we must go back historicallv to the Crookes tube and Braund tube. These devices were the result of the discovery of the electron by Sir J. J. Thomson in 1897. That electrons are emitted from an incandescent wire
This being the 100th anniversary of J. J. Thomson’s discovery of the electron, the October 1897 paper in which he presented his case that cathode rays are streams attention. Viewed from 100 years later, this paper stands out as the starting point for the research into the structure of the atom. point of view,

Sir Joseph John Thomson OM FRS [1] (18 December 1856 – 30 August 1940) was a British physicist and Nobel Laureate in Physics, credited with the discovery of the electron, the first subatomic particle to be found.
In the one hundred years which have elapsed since its discovery by J.J. Thomson, the electron has enjoyed exponential growth as an object for basic study, as a vital tool of science and engineering and as a potent agent for sociological change.
