  2. Jake Wightman (born 11 July 1994) [5] is a British middle-distance runner who primarily competes in the 1500 metres. He won the gold medal at the 2022 World Championships, the first global gold in a middle distance event for a British male since Seb Coe's 1500 m title at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

    British middle-distance runner who competes primarily in the 1,500 meters and took the gold medal in that event at the 2022 World Athletics Championships. He has 9,000 followers on Twitter and 60,000 on Instagram.

    He was born in Nottingham, England and attended Stewart's Melville College and Fettes College, both independent schools in Edinburgh, before studying at Loughborough University Leicestershire.

    His victory at the 2022 World Athletics Championships was Great Britain's first 1500m world title since Steve Cramin 1983. However, so convinced were UK Athletics' coaches that Wightman didn't stand a chance, that they'd already booked Wightman on a flight home only one hour after the 1500m medal ceremony was due to take place.

    His father and trainer, Geoff Wightman, represented England in the marathon at the 1990 Commonwealth Games. His mother, Susan Tooby, and his aunt represented Great Britain at the Olympic Games. His mother also started training him at age 11.

    The other 1500m runners in 2022's World Athletic Championship included former Olympians Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Timothy Cheruiyot, and Josh Kerr, in addition to Abel Kipsang, the world's fastest man in 2022.
