Oct 2, 2019 · From these films, it would seem the most accurate is 2004's King Arthur with Clive Owen. Arthur is actually a (half-)Celt here and he fights off a Saxon invasion, even if the ridiculousness of Sarmatian knights fighting with him cannot be taken seriously.
Hurray for historical accuracy. Anyway, "historical accuracy", "true story"... these are hardly worth carping about. It's enough that King Arthur really does want to be in some way true to the setting where the historical Arthur, if he or somebody like him did exist, would have lived.
Despite the fact that the opening of the movie suggests that King Arthur was based on a figure from the Dark Ages, I think it's safe to say this movie is far from historically accurate. The movie also tends to deviate from the legend of King Arthur as well.
