Monsieur Philippe I, Duke of Orléans (21 September 1640 – 9 June 1701) was the younger son of King Louis XIII of France and Anne of Austria, and the younger brother of King Louis XIV. He was the founder of the House of Orléans, a cadet branch of the ruling House of Bourbon.
Eleven years later, in 1671, after the death of his first wife Henrietta of England, Louis XIV forced his brother to marry Princess Elisabeth Charlotte, Madame Palatine. They had three children, including future regent Philippe II, Duke of Orleans and Mademoiselle de Chartres.

Aug 28, 2024 · Philippe I, duke d’Orléans was the duke d’Orléans and the only member of the first dynasty of dukes of Orléans. Philippe was the younger son of King Philip VI of France, who in 1344 established the peerage duchy for him to compensate for losing his expectation of Dauphiné, which had been reserved.
But the couple did not have a peaceful marriage life as Henrietta started flirting with Philippe’s brother Louis XIV in the summer of 1661. When Philippe brought to his mother’s notice about the intimacy shared by his wife with her brother-in-law, his mother Anne rebuked her older son and Henrietta for their attraction towards each other.
