The Pomeranian Dukes’ Castle has five wings and two courtyards. Acting as a cultural institution it organizes an array of cultural events: concerts, theatre performances, exhibitions, conferences and meetings to popularize science, as well as to spread knowledge about the history of West Pomerania. The largest wing houses an Opera.
Duke Casimir V of Pomerania (or, counting differently, Casimir VI; after 1380 – 13 April 1435) was a member of the House of Griffins and a Duke of Pomerania. He ruled in Pomerania-Stettin together with his brother Otto II from 1413 to 1428. After 1428, he ruled Pomerania-Stettin alone.

Anti-Jewish riots broke out in Pomerania in 1881, resulting, in Stettin, in violence that lasted for three days. In 1933, approximately 2,500 Jews resided in Stettin, served by a rabbi and a teacher/chazzan who instructed 250 children.
The War of the Succession of Stettin ( German: Stettiner Erbfolgekrieg, Stettiner Erbfolgestreit) was a conflict between the Dukes of Pomerania and the Elector of Brandenburg. It started in 1464, after the death of Duke Otto III, the last Duke of Pomerania-Stettin.
Bogislaw XIII (Bogusław XIII) of Pomerania (9 August 1544 – 7 March 1606, Stettin; Polish: Szczecin ), son of Philip I and Maria of Saxony, was a prince of Stettin and Wolgast, and a member of the Griffins . Bogislaw studied at the University of Greifswald at the age of 14.
