Adam McKay has the possibly complete, possibly incomplete Mediocre American Man trilogy (aka the Colon trilogy), in which Will Ferrell plays a mediocre American man with the initials R.B. (Anchorman, Talladega Nights, and maybe/maybe not Anchorman 2). More information on the parallels here.

It wasn't a budget movie or something expensive, more like filler, like the movie company just made a movie for a living. The IMDB rating should be around 6.0, and we could agree it's a great mediocre movie. But first of all, it should be a bit obscure, a movie that isn't mentioned too often. Elizabetown.
