Possenhofen Castle (German: Schloss Possenhofen) is a condominium complex and former palace located in Possenhofen on the western shore of Lake Starnberg in Bavaria, Germany. It is best known as being the childhood summer residence of Empress Elisabeth of Austria .
Along the walk between Roseninsel and Possenhofen S-Bahn station is current home of Wittlesbachs, last royal rulers of Bavaria. This castle is also associated with the popular "princess" Empress Elisabeth ,Sissi, wife of Franz Joseph of Austria.

Life. Sophie Charlotte was born at the Possenhofen Castle, the residence of her paternal family, the Dukes in Bavaria. She was a daughter of Duke Maximilian Joseph in Bavaria and Princess Ludovika of Bavaria. The ninth of ten children born to her parents, she was known as Sopherl within the family.
