Closure Encounters is the third episode of the second season of Quantum Leap, and the twenty-first episode of the series overall. It first aired on October 18, 2023.
Now a government agent, Ben investigates unexplained extraterrestrial activity; after a mysterious incident in New Mexico, two young girls' lives are on the line; Ben meets Hannah Carson, who may be more than she appears.
Ben leaps into Agent Robert Cook of Project Sign, which investigates reports of UFOs. He is investigating a farmer's claims of strange activity, which turn out to be some kids messing with the farmer.
Addison and Ben address the tension around her new relationship, but Ben wants to focus on the leap. He is directed to a UFO report involved in car accident in Starlight, New Mexico. Ian is enthusiastic about the UFO possibilities. On a long road trip to Starlight, Ben gets an update on the team, and Ben says that his memory is now fully restored.
Ben interviews the driver, Carrie Baker, in the hospital. She says a light in sky chased their car and ran them off the road. Carrie was injured, so her friend Melanie Hunt left to get help and disappeared, later turning up in a coma. Carrie's grandfather is the town sheriff, who is grieving Carrie's apparent decline and misbehavior since her mother's death, and blames that for Melanie's coma. Russell Hunt, local rich man and father of Melanie, demands that Carrie go to jail.
In a diner, Ben meets friendly waitress Hannah Carson, who believes Carrie's story. In the conversation, she demonstrates a surprising amount of physics knowledge. Ben and the Sheriff drive to the crash site. They are being followed by Hunt's men, who the sheriff confronts and runs off the road. Ben learns he has three days before the circuit judge arrives, and that the sheriff was the one who sent the tip to Project Sign. Addison finds suspicious footprints, which Ben notes, but also notes that Carrie could be lying due to grief. Ben disagrees with her, his judgment possibly clouded by his grief over Addison. Ben comforts Carrie and finds out that something was at the crash with her.
Ben ignores Addison's warning to stay away from Hunt's thugs watching him, but he is saved by the sheriff. The team speculates that Hunt is making his money from drug trafficking, and that the UFO is actually an early helicopter used for drug smuggling. Magic wonders if another hologram would get a better response from Ben, but Addison won't abandon him again. Ben and the sheriff decide to go to Hunt's ranch that night, ignoring Addison's advice to wait till morning. On the drive, Ben and sheriff bond over the pain of losing someone, and Ben reveals he blames himself for losing his fiancee.
The car shuts down due to interference, which also blocks the hologram signal. The two run for it, but Ben is abducted and wakes up in his bed. Addison doesn't know what happened, and they clash over Ben's recklessness. Ben isn't sure he can ever get the old Ben back.
