The southwest corner of this intersection was known as the “Eureka Corner,” which was named for the city’s first hotel, the Eureka House. Built in that location in 1854, the building was operated as the Eureka Brewery from 1870‐1889. It was demolished in June of 1912 for construction of the Sequoia Hotel.

Our revitalization has greatly increased the foot traffic on Redwood City’s downtown sidewalks. The block of Broadway upon which the Sequoia Hotel sits is particularly busy.
