The first phase, known as the First Serbian–Ottoman War ( Први српско-турски рат / Prvi srpsko-turski rat ), took place between 30 June 1876 and 28 February 1877. The Serbian government declared war on the Ottoman Empire on the symbolic Vidovdan (June 27), the day of the Battle of Kosovo (1389).
