Tapan Sinha (2 October 1924 – 15 January 2009) [1] was one of the most prominent Indian film directors of his time forming a legendary quartet with Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak and Mrinal Sen.
Tapan Sinha. Director: Apanjan. Born in 1924. Science graduate from University of Calcutta. Sinha began his film career as a sound engineer in Calcutta's New Theatre in 1946. Four years later, he received an invitation to the London film festival and the opportunity of working at Pinewood Studios. He was in the UK for two years.

Jan 15, 2009 · Dadasaheb Phalke award winner and noted film-maker Tapan Sinha died at a hospital in Kolkata on Thursday after prolonged illness. Sinha,84,was suffering from pneumonia and septicaemia,hospital sources said. He is survived by a son. His actress-wife Arundhuti Devi died in 1990.
