Prince Prospero watches as the Red Plague kills the peasants in his village. Desiring Francesca, he takes her to his castle along with her husband and father, so as to make her a bride of Satan at a masked ball. When a hooded stranger arrives, Prospero is perplexed by the unexpected visitor.
