The IndieProd Company. Website. www.carolcofilms.com. Carolco Pictures, Inc. was an American independent film studio that existed from 1976 to 1995, founded by Mario Kassar and Andrew G. Vajna. [1] Kassar and Vajna ran Carolco together until 1989, when Vajna left to form Cinergi Pictures.
With select exceptions, theatrical distribution for Carolco films was managed by TriStar Pictures, starting with Rambo: First Blood Part II in 1985 and ending with Wagons East! in 1994. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer would take the distribution reigns afterwards and released Stargate, Showgirls and Cutthroat Island .
