History. The first cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Tumskie Hill in Płock was probably founded by Bolesław the Bold or Władysław Herman. It served as the main church of the Płock bishopric, founded in 1075, during the reorganization of the Polish ecclesiastical province by the legates of Pope Gregory VII.
