In 1261, Barnim lost the Soldin area, and in the following years the terra Zehden to Brandenburg. In 1264, Duke Wartislaw III of Demmin died, his cousin Barnim I (the Good) became the sole ruler of the duchy. In 1266, Barnim I married Mechthild, the daughter of Otto III, Margrave of Brandenburg.
