The Peter and Paul Cathedral ( Russian: Петропавловский собор, romanized : Petropavlovskiy sobor) is a Russian Orthodox cathedral located inside the Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg, Russia. It is the first and oldest landmark in St. Petersburg, built between 1712 and 1733 on Hare Island along the Neva River.
With over 50 cathedrals spread out in the city, it is quiet difficult to choose which cathedral you should visit, especially if you have only a few days. - Architecture. The ongoing structure, the principal stone church in St. Petersburg, was planned by Trezzini and worked somewhere in the range of 1712 and 1733.
- Church Functions. The basilica is committed to Saints Peter and Paul, the benefactor holy people of the fortification (Saint Peter being the supporter holy person of the city).
- Imperial Tombs. The church building houses the remaining parts of practically every one of the Russian rulers and sovereigns from Peter the Great to Nicholas II and his family, who were, at last, let go in July 1998.
- The Bell Tower. The chime tower (with tower) is the prevailing aspect of this house of God and the fortification. It serves a few capabilities as a feature of the design: It is a building image, a significant piece of its shape and of the Peter and Paul Fortress.
- Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral: The royal burial vault and the city's talisman. Founded in 1712, Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral is St. Petersburg's oldest church – and it’s the tallest church in the historic part of the town as well, with its gilded spire reaching a height of 122.5 meters.
- The Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ on Spilled Blood. This temple is commonly known as the Church of the Savior on Blood.
- St. Isaac's Cathedral: The city's best panorama point. St. Isaac's Cathedral is one of St. Petersburg's most photographed landmarks, mostly because of its colossal size: The golden dome of Europe's third highest cathedral is visible from dozens of kilometers away.
- Kazan Cathedral: The sacred stronghold of Orthodox Christianity framed with Vatican-style columns. Forming a majestic semicircle around the Kazan Cathedral, the colonnade resembles that of St. Peter's Cathedral in the Vatican, but its true purpose is to mask the fact that the real facade is turned away from Nevsky Prospect, the city's main avenue.

Peter and Paul Cathedral is one of the finest baroque buildings in St. Petersburg, and was the tallest building in the city until the 20th century. Built 1712-1733, it was arguably the greatest work of architect Domenico Trezzini, and a bold statement of Peter the Great's desire to adopt Western European styles in architecture and in religion.
