     Cache size

     Cache functions differently for different browsers. There is often not a clear "rule" for each browser, and the cache limit and functionality can differ between devices and browsers.

     You stated that the max cache size was 320MB. This may always be true for your device, but if you check on a different device or configure different settings, this will change. Chrome often uses cache sizes larger than 320MB, and can even get into a gigabyte depending on the users hard drive space. Microsoft Edge and Firefox function very similarly.

     Safari is a bit more cloudy in cache, as it is given constraints by iOS to optimize device performance. Firefox also uses dynamic cache, but is configurable (described below), and you can track its size more clearly than Safari cache.

     Increase cache size

     You can increase the size of your cache on Chrome. You cannot adjust the size of the cache for an end user on any of the common browsers.

     For Chrome, you can change the local cache easily using the following these steps:

     • Launch Chrome
     • Right click on the Chrome icon
     • Right click on the line item that reads "Google Chrome"
     • Click on "Properties"
     • Navigate to the "Shortcut" tab
     • Click on the "Target" box
     • Add this to the end of the line: —-disk-cache-size=524000000

     On windows, this will now read "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --disk-cache-size=524000000

     This will set the cache to approximately 524MB, but it will likely not be that value, as described here; Chrome takes it as a "hint" to what cache size should be. It may seem desirable to increase this to a massive value, but there will be diminishing returns, and if you go too large you may actually inhibit performance.

     You said that you are not setting Cache-Control: max-age as a header, but it would likely be beneficial to do so. For example, if you want the cache to persist for 24 hours, you could do Cache-Control: max-age=86400. Keep in mind that you may encounter issues if you are loading dynamic content but are telling the browser to keep content around for a full 24 hours. If you have truly static content, you could cache it for as long as you want; conversely, truly dynamic content will often be set with Cache-Control: max-age=0.

     Seeing as the String class' length() method returns an int value, the maximum length that would be returned by the method would be Integer.MAX_VALUE, which is 2^31 - 1 (or approximately 2 billion.)

     So you can have a String of 2,147,483,647 characters, theoretically. I don't think you should need much more than that.

     However, as @TedHopp has pointed out in the comments and posted in his answer, the Android system limits your heap space, going as low as 16 MB. Therefore, you'll never practically be able to reach the theoretical limit, and will max out with a String somewhere in the 4-64 million character range.

     For a n-bit RSA key, direct encryption (with PKCS#1 "old-style" padding) works for arbitrary binary messages up to floor(n/8) - 11 bytes. In other words, for a 1024-bit RSA key (128 bytes), up to 117 bytes.

     With OAEP (the PKCS#1 "new-style" padding), this is a bit less. OAEP uses a hash function with output length h bits; this implies a size limit of floor(n/8) - 2*ceil(h/8) - 2. For a 1024-bit RSA key using SHA-256 as the hash function (h = 256), this means binary messages up to 62 bytes.

     There is no problem in encrypting a RSA key with another RSA key (there is no problem in encrypting any sequence of bytes with RSA, whatever those bytes represent), but, of course, the "outer" RSA key will have to be bigger: with old-style padding, to encrypt a 256-byte message, you will need a RSA key with a modulus of at least 2136 bits.

     Hybrid modes (you encrypt data with a random symmetric key and encrypt that symmetric key with RSA) are nonetheless recommended as a general case, if only because they do not have any practical size limits, and also because they make it easier to replace the RSA part with another key exchange algorithm (e.g. Diffie-Hellman).

     I'm not sure your question is entirely clear, but I think you're asking how much data can be transferred to or from L1 cache upon execution of a single x86 instruction?

     If so, it's kind of an ill posed question. The cache structure, and even caching as a concept are not part of the x86 specification. This means, that the answer depends entirely on the underlying hardware. If there's a specific processor you have in mind, you can probably find the answer in the data sheet. What you're looking for is the cache block size, since cache managers like to write and read whole blocks at a time. However, there are instructions in x86 extensions (such as AVX and SSE) that deal specifically with large memory transactions, and they can write or read the cache as much as is required/convenient.
