  3. Aug 11, 2009 · You will see a WA number (WA8555 is black, for example) and it may (or may not) say BC/CC after that. Most of the metallic colors started bc/cc in 88 or 89, some of the solid colors (white, black, victory red) were single stage through the mid 90's.

    As previously discussed, thermoplastic acrylic lacquer automotive coatings, given their excellent appearance, were the major automotive topcoat used in the 1950-70s.

    For the most part, every consumer vehicle that has been produced since the 1980s has at least one layer of clear coat. When vehicles are being painted at the factory, a layer(s) of clear coat is applied on top of the color paint.

Even though there is quite a bit of lacquer checking in the paint job it appears glossy as if it was clear coated. The seller insists he had the car looked at by NCRS guys and they felt it...

  5. In early 1955, General Motors started to work with a new raw material supplier. In doing so they chose a different kind of enamel paint product. Here instead of the early alkyd resins they chose to start using new acrylics. This product was used in a process that GM called “reflow.”

  7. Sep 14, 2006 · In the mid 1950's GM started using aycrlic laquer commonly known as Lucite instead, because it produced a more durable finish, but did not have the depth of nitrocellulose. As far as the corvette was concerned, apparantly all the cars produced in St Louis were of acrylic lacquer single stage and buffed.
