Middletown’s history dates back to the late 18th century when a group of pioneering families ventured westward in search of new opportunities. These settlers were drawn to the region’s fertile land and abundant water sources, which provided excellent conditions for farming and trade.

Middletown was also able to restore the Wetherby House – currently City Hall - in Wetherby Park which has expanded with a gazebo, walking path, pavilion and picnic tables at little cost to the city due to Chapman’s ability to seek out federal and state grants.
The treaty was signed in October 1818, and became official the next year. The Jackson Purchase was eventually divided into eight Kentucky counties: Hickman, Calloway, Graves, McCracken, Marshall, Ballard, Fulton, and Carlisle. In 1845, Fulton County was created from part of Hickman County.
In 2003, the city of Louisville merged with Jefferson County to become Louisville-Jefferson Metro. As of the 2010 census, it is the largest city in the state of Kentucky, the largest on the Ohio River, and 28th largest city in the nation.

HISTORY. FORMATION OF A NEW POLICE DEPARTMENT. MPD EST. DEC, 2017. Founded in 1797 and re-incorporated in 1979, Middletown had never had its own police department. Earlier, it had relied on Jefferson County Police for law enforcement.
