Fentanyl: Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid and is said to be 30 to 50 times stronger than heroin. This prescription medication is used to treat severe pain after surgery and chronic pain in opioid-dependent people. Fentanyl is responsible for the vast majority of opioid overdose deaths. - COX-2 inhibitors. COX-2 inhibitors are another type of NSAID. These medications were developed with the aim of reducing the common side effects of traditional NSAIDs.
- Antidepressants and anti-seizure medications. Some medications commonly prescribed to manage depression and prevent epileptic seizures have been found to help relieve chronic pain.
