Nick Wild is a fictional character who appears in the 2015 film Wild Card. He serves as the protagonist of the film. This character is portrayed by Jason Statham.
He is a former gambling addict who now takes on odd jobs in Las Vegas, acting as a "chaperone" or bodyguard to support his lifestyle. After helping a client impress a girl, Nick agrees to a request from a young man named Cyrus Kinnick to show him around Vegas and protect him while he gambles. However, Nick's life takes a turn when his friend Holly, a professional escort, asks him to help her seek justice for a brutal assault she suffered from a gangster named Danny DeMarco.
Throughout the movie, Nick navigates through dangerous situations and confrontations, seeking to protect those he cares about and make a living. Despite having a chance to change his life through a substantial gambling win, his addiction gets the better of him, leading to significant losses. Nick's interactions with various characters and his encounters with DeMarco and his men ultimately lead to intense and dramatic moments.
Jason Statham plays Nick in this film, self-scripted by William Goldman from his novel Heat, previously filmed in 1986 with Burt Reynolds. I must have seen that version, but I have no memory of it and, on the basis of Wild Card, I can understand why.
