Sir William Robert Wills Wilde FRCSI (March 1815 – 19 April 1876) was an Irish oto - ophthalmologic surgeon and the author of significant works on medicine, archaeology and folklore, particularly concerning his native Ireland.
He married (12 November 1851) Jane Francesca Elgee (qv) (‘Speranza’ of the Nation); they had three children, William (qv), Oscar (qv), and Isola who died of fever in 1867 in her ninth year. They lived at 21 Westland Row, moving to 1 Merrion Square in 1855.
In 1851 he married Jane Francesca Elgee (a relative of the late Sir Robert McClure, discoverer of the North-west Passage), well known in Ireland as a poetical writer, under the name of “Speranza.”
