- Bali - the best tourist destination among all Indonesian islands. With its pounding surf, emerald-green rice terraces and exceptionally artistic culture, the small volcanic island of Bali has long been one of the best Indonesian islands.
- Lombok for unspoilt beaches. Thirty-five kilometres east of Bali at its closest point, Islamic Lombok (80km by 70km) is populated by a Sasak population.
- Gili Meno for birdwatching and more. This is one of the most tranquil Indonesian islands of the three Gili Islands, with a small local population, no nightlife and arguably the best beaches.
- Gili Trawangan and its magic mushrooms. Furthest from the mainland, the largest of the islands, Gili Trawangan attracts the greatest number of visitors (many of whom come for the magic mushrooms for which the island is infamous) and is the most developed.
- Bali. I bet you’ve already seen thousands of pictures of Bali on Instagram and in travel magazines – I know I did! The whole island seemed like paradise based on the photos, so naturally, it was at the top of my bucket list for a long time.
- Nusa Penida. Nusa Penida, situated near Bali, is hands down my favourite island in Indonesia. I have visited twice and will return on my next visit to this part of the world; that’s how much I love Nusa.
- Lombok. I visited the Indonesian island of Lombok to experience the beautiful white sand beaches, attend a yoga retreat and enjoy the slower pace of life on a less-developed island.
- Java. One of my favourite islands in Indonesia is Java. It is located between Bali and Sumatra and is a real travel highlight of the country. We chose Java because of the impressive volcanoes, mountains and cultural sites to explore.
