The World Wide Fund for Nature ( WWF) is a Swiss -based international non-governmental organization founded in 1961 that works in the field of wilderness preservation and the reduction of human impact on the environment. [5] . It was formerly named the World Wildlife Fund, which remains its official name in Canada and the United States.
WWF aims to double the world’s wild tiger population by 2022 (TX2). We’re working with world leaders to take action, focusing conservation efforts in key sites, raising funds to permanently protect landscapes, and supporting community-based conservation. Saving tigers is about more than restoring a single species.
WWF Overview. World Wildlife Fund is the largest privately supported international conservation organization in the world with more than 1.2 million members in the United States. Since its inception in 1961, World Wildlife Fund has invested in over ten thousand projects in 157 countries.
Our new strategy puts people at the center and organizes our work around six key areas: forests, marine, freshwater, wildlife, food and climate. By linking these six areas in an integrated approach, we can better leverage our unique assets and direct all our resources to protecting vulnerable places, species and communities worldwide.
