Zita of Bourbon-Parma ( Zita Maria delle Grazie Adelgonda Micaela Raffaela Gabriella Giuseppina Antonia Luisa Agnese; 9 May 1892 – 14 March 1989) was the wife of Charles I, the last monarch of Austria-Hungary. As such, she was the last Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary, in addition to other titles.
As the empress—crown or no crown—Zita was the matriarch of the Habsburg dynasty. She celebrated her 95th birthday surrounded by her ever-expanding family. Shortly thereafter, however, her health took a turn for the worse. On March 14, 1989, at the age of 96, Zita passed away soundly after saying all of her goodbyes.

Zita, the last empress. Born on 9 May 1892, Zita was the daughter of Duke Robert of Bourbon-Parma (1848–1907), the last sovereign of the minor northern Italian duchy before the unification of Italy, and the latter’s second wife, Maria Antonia von Braganza (1862–1959), who was a member of the Portuguese royal family.
