  5. It was a wonderful surprise. It's great how Ruth (the character, not the author) gets so hung up on what's happening to Nao, even though Nao's story is dated & we have no idea how old Nao is by the time Ruth is following her earlier story. It just plays beautifully with time. She doesn't hold back on the darker aspects of the story.
