The Alfred H. Baumann Free Public Library was founded on May 26, 1962 through the efforts of the West Paterson Women's Club. Housed in a former church on 11 Whippany Avenue, the library outgrew the space and in 1979 relocated to its present facility at 7 Brophy Lane.
