This park has a moving memorial with excellent views of the harbour and open sea. The location of Ataturk Memorial Park resembles the Gallipoli peninsula. It sits on the headlands above Tarakena Bay on Wellington’s Miramar Peninsula.
Your Visit Experience the Anzac Legend Ataturk Memorial Overlooking the channel bearing his name, the scenic boardwalk that leads from Albany to Middleton Beach is home to a life-sized statue of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Commander in Chief of the Turkish forces at Gallipoli, and subsequently President of Turkey from 1923 – 1938.
The memorial comprises a marble crescent, a bust of Atatürk, inscriptions, and soil from Anzac Cove. In 1999, a paved forecourt and path, also designed by Bowman, and gravel car-parking areas were added with funding from the Turkish government.
A memorial to Ataturk, founder of Turkey and defender of Gallipoli in 1915. The site is geographically very similar to the actual site of ANZAC landing in Gallipoli. A must see for every Australian and New Zealander interested in their own history. Any Turk, coming to this part of the world should visit it as well.

The Ataturk Memroial is located in Tarakena Bay and pays homage to the first Leader of the Republic of Turkey. The memorial was designed by Ian Bowman and is in a commanding postition overlooking Cook Strait. The actual location was chosen by NZ/Australian and Turkish because of the resemblence of the scenery to that of Gallipoli Peninsula.
