The game was only recently (April 2013) re-released as Age of Empires II HD with HD support and several other enhancements. This comes with several advantages aswell as disadvantages.

You upload files within the game by going to the Steam Workshop. Scenarios are found here: \Steam\SteamApps\common\Age2HD\Scenario
For instance, there is a Genie Converter program on the Blacksmith that opens up AKX files and Mod directories and converts them into Mods that you can play in AOK HD on Steam. An example is the RAW Mod that I was able to get to work on AOK HD on Steam this way.

Check out the Armies section for some cool warrior graphics. But the game itself is battles only, not civilization and is pretty hard to play. Has certain rules kinda like in chess. It's based on the DBM.
