Hell, in Mockingjay Haymich literally asks "What made you like Katniss. Not when Peeta was making you like her, but when she moved you" so Peeta was a driving force behind her popularity (and by extension sponsors) You blaming Peeta for acting hijacked is crazy I'm not even gonna comment. He didn't try to kill her. Not the real Peeta.
