At the Art Students League of New York, Knight started working with well known abstract painter Larry Poons. At one of his first classes, he spent a long time setting up his work space, and Poons questioned him.

Ben Knight is known for Modernist style gestural, heavily layered paintings, non objective. Ben Knight is a highly regarded contemporary artist working in North Carolina. A native of Chicago, he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1998 until 2000.
Congratulations to painter Ben Knight who was selected to be part of a prestigious show at the North Carolina Museum of Art. The show is titled “Front Burner: Highlights in Contemporary North Carolina Painting” and features a sampling of some of the most relevant and engaging painting being made in the state.
