  1. Mar 10, 2023 · By Dallas Robinson. March 10, 2023 | 9:00 AM EST. After quarterback, offensive tackle is in the running alongside wide receiver, edge rusher, and cornerback for the most important position in football. As such, the best offensive tackles in the NFL are among the league’s most crucial players.

    • Trent Williams, San Francisco 49ers. It takes a lot to get to the NFC Championship game with your third quarterback as the 49ers did last season with Brock “Mr.
    • Lane Johnson, Philadelphia Eagles. Were it not for Trent Williams (justifiably) bogarting the top of everybody’s tackle lists over the last couple of seasons, Johnson might actually get his due as perhaps the finest right tackle of his era, and maybe one of the best at that position… well, ever.
    • Terron Armstead, Miami Dolphins. Armstead benefited from one of the most amazing scouting combine performances in recent memory — after he ran a 4.79-second 40-yard dash with a 1.64-second 10-yard split at the 2013 event, it didn’t matter that he was from a smaller school (Arkansas-Pine Bluff), and the Saints took him in the third round of the 2013 draft.
    • Laremy Tunsil, Houston Texans. Not much about the Texans’ 2022 offense was remarkable — the team finished 30th in DVOA, 30th in Weighted DVOA, 29th in passing DVOA, and dead last in rushing DVOA.

  3. 1 day ago · 10. Kolton Miller, Las Vegas Raiders. Miller gave up pressure on just 4.0% of dropbacks in 2023, tied for the fifth-best rate among offensive tackles in the NFL. This is even more impressive, given that Miller was slowed down by an injury over the second half of the season.

    • Trent Williams, San Francisco 49ers. It speaks to Williams’ competitive temperament that perhaps his most dominant play of the 2021 season was born out of frustration.
    • Lane Johnson, Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles selected Johnson with the fourth overall pick in the 2013 draft out of Oklahoma, and after a rough rookie season in which he allowed 11 sacks and 60 total pressures, Johnson has been a bastion of consistency for Philly’s line when healthy.
    • Tristan Wirfs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Between the Buccaneers’ pass-heavy offense and their predilection for postseason appearances with Tom Brady, the tackles are going to get all kinds of opportunities to pass-protect.
    • Tyron Smith, Dallas Cowboys. From 2012 through 2019, you could argue every season — pretty convincingly — that Tyron Smith was the NFL’s best left tackle.

    • Trent Williams, San Francisco 49ers. Williams has been with the 49ers for three seasons now and has finished all three with the highest PFF grade among offensive tackles.
    • Lane Johnson, Philadelphia Eagles. Johnson dealt with injuries throughout the 2022 season but still put together his best season in pass protection since entering the NFL.
    • Laremy Tunsil, Houston Texans. The best pass-protecting tackle in football a year ago, Tunsil had an incredible 2022 season. On the field for 676 pass-blocking snaps over the course of the regular season, he allowed just one sack, three hits and 13 hurries.
    • Andrew Thomas, New York Giants. A rough rookie season has long since been forgotten about, with Thomas growing into a top-five NFL tackle in his third season in the league.
  4. Jun 19, 2022 · By Dallas Robinson. June 18, 2022 | 8:00 PM EDT. The value of the top offensive tackles in the NFL will continue to rise in 2022. Offensive tackle is arguably the second-most important position on the field after the quarterback, so finding solutions at either end of the front five is paramount.
