     Upps It seems that I found the solution myself.

     I downloaded ZScaler certificate and then pointed from config:

     $ cat ~/aws/.config[default]ca_bundle = /data/ca-certs/whatevername.pem

     I was getting crazy, I hope it helps someone else.

     The instructions provided in the answer by Arjun KP don't work for more recent versions of Firefox (tested on v. 57.0.1). Instead, here's what I did:

     • Enter about:config in the address bar, accepting the risk if prompted.
     • Enter security.OCSP.enabled in the search bar.
     • Change the value of that setting from 1 to 0.
     • Reload the page that failed.

     After doing this, my site started working.

     However, as Arjun mentioned, this will reduce the security of Firefox, since it disables the Online Certificate Status Protocol. Ideally, you should reset the setting to 1 after you finish with that site, and not load other pages while it is set to 0.

     Potential solutions to this were not dual signing the cat file and checking the root certs of the customer's pcs. I also learned that the error message in setupapi.dev.log is perfectly normal

     After some research with a lot of apparently contradictory Microsoft documentation I finally landed at https://learn.microsoft.com/windows-hardware/drivers/install/kernel-mode-code-signing-policy--windows-vista-and-later- where it says:

     "Note: Starting with Windows 10, version 1607, Windows will not load any new kernel mode drivers which are not signed by the Dev Portal.

     [...]

     Cross-signed drivers are still permitted if any of the following are true:

     The PC was upgraded from an earlier release of Windows to Windows 10, version 1607.

     Secure Boot is off in the BIOS.

     Drivers was signed with an end-entity certificate issued prior to July 29th 2015 that chains to a supported cross-signed CA."

     And it turned out that Secure Boot was enabled on none of our testing machines, but exactly on the customer machines that had the problem.

     Now we have to perform a WHQL certification with the driver. Fortunately there are companies which offer this as a service, so we don't have to maintain a certification machine pool.

     I got things working, after I removed the file system reference for the datanode in hdfs-site.xml. I found that enabled the software to create and initialise its own datanode, which then popped up in sbin. After that I could use hdfs without a hitch. Here is what worked for me for Hadoop 3.1.3 on windows:

     The problem may be that you don't have the installation directory added to your PATH environment variable. For your setup, you want C:\Program Files (x86)\Nodist\bin to be in your PATH. Check your path by running echo %PATH% in cmd.

     In Windows 10, if you need to add to your PATH, you can follow the instructions here or search for "View advanced system settings" in the start menu, click on "Environment Variables" under the "Advanced" tab, click Path then the "Edit" button, and add a new entry to the PATH that has C:\Program Files (x86)\Nodist\bin.
