Across town, Graham and Ria arrive at the scene of a shooting by off-duty policeman Det. Conklin. Conklin, who is white, states he shot the victim, a black man, in self-defense, but when Graham and Ria search the dead man's car, they discover that he is another off-duty policeman, named Lewis.
