The Donner Party is a 2009 American period Western drama film written and directed by Terrence Martin (credited as T.J. Martin), and starring Crispin Glover, Clayne Crawford, Michele Santopietro, Mark Boone Junior, and Christian Kane.
In 1846, the ill-fated Donner Reed party, bound for settlement in California, became trapped in the Sierra Nevada Mountains by heavy snow. They faced a harsh winter, leaving 36 of its 81 members dead and the survivors pushed to the brink of desperation.
It took two months and four relief parties to rescue the entire surviving Donner Party. In the Donner Party tragedy, two-thirds of the men in the party perished, while two-thirds of the women and children lived.
