Lonas Edgar Bailey, Jr. (April 15, 1931 – March 23, 2007) was an American professional baseball player and later served on the Knoxville, Tennessee city council. He played as a catcher in Major League Baseball from 1953 through 1966. A six-time All-Star, Bailey was one of the top catchers in the National League in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

The 19-year-old hit .313 in his first professional season, in Class C ball, and was back with the Reds the next spring. Manager Luke Sewell said, “Bailey has everything you look for in a catcher, plus a world of savvy.” 6 Bailey had one more thing: his draft notice.
Ed Bailey was a six-time All-Star during his career, including four appearances in a Cincinnati Reds uniform, third most in team history, behind two Hall of Fame catchers, Ernie Lombardi (5x) and Johnny Bench (14x).

Mar 27, 2007 · KNOXVILLE, Tenn., March 26 (AP) Ed Bailey, an All-Star catcher with the Cincinnati Reds in the 1950s, died Friday. He was 75. The cause was cancer, his family told The Knoxville Daily Sentinel.
Ed Bailey was a catcher who played for the Cincinnati Redlegs and Reds, and the San Francisco Giants from 1953 to 1963. He was a four-time NL All-Star and hit 155 home runs in his career.
