Ethan Embry is a huge fan of the show and has auditioned for other characters, including Shane and Rick. Carter is one of six Alexandria residents to be an antagonist, the others being Pete Anderson, Nicholas, Ron Anderson, Spencer Monroe, and Vincent. Of these, Carter and Nicholas are the only two to renounce their antagonistic ways.
