  2. Anyway, the "Gin" album. "Awakening" was our follow-up to SST album #1 "Confession". "Awakening" bombed. Miserably. SST, saints that they are, were nevertheless ready for another Last record. I wasn't. The '89 tour had left me somewhat disillusioned, and restless. We did one or two gigs when we got home, and then I took a year off.

  4. The Last is a Los Angeles –based band formed in 1976 by Joe Nolte with high school bandmates Vitus Mataré and Dave Harbison. By 1978 the band included three brothers: Joe (guitar, vocals), Mike (vocals), and David Nolte (bass guitar).

  5. The other two brothers have carried on the group; "Gin & Innuendoes" is the band's first release since 1989's "Awakening" (also on SST). Longtime L.A. producer Earle Mankey not only has captured the explosive dynamics the band has always shown live, but also has given them a fuller, more powerful sound than on prior recordings.

  6. A solid potion of powerpop, raw chords, and pure attitude, complete with the eloquence to sing their point, and with enough hooks to make you listen.
