Gloreth has pale skin, long brown hair, with a red string as a tie in the back. She wears a long red cape and pale armor, and carries a tall shield and a sword.
Supposedly, Gloreth fights and slays a great beast that is seemingly capable of regeneration and shapeshifting, depending on the telling of Gloreth's tale.
Some "message board conspiracy theorists" suggest that the beast slays Gloreth and then takes on her shape.
Gloreth is shown fighting with a sword and shield, so she presumably has some skill with those in combat.
•One theory for Nimona's backstory is that she is the beast Gloreth slew, or otherwise related. All that has been confirmed by ND Stevenson is that "Nimona is not a descendant of Gloreth."
•Backstory seemingly connecting Nimona and Gloreth more officially, as appears in the movie adaptation, is something Stevenson has thought about for some time prior to the movie's development, and Stevenson noted, “There’s one thing I really loved seeing in the movie, because it was a seed of an idea I had with the comic that didn’t really fit in the comic itself . . . That’s the story of Gloreth, and her backstory with Nimona. . . . [That backstory] was something I thought about for the comic, so I talked to the filmmakers about it . . . To see it unfold in such a beautiful way in the movie was really amazing. I love being able to see different shades of this story, which I know really, really well, being expanded in different directions, and evolving into something new.”

- Ballister Blackheart is now Ballister Boldheart. The two incarnations of Ballister have a lot in common. Both are dark-haired knights with a robot arm, a broken heart, and an axe to grind against the Institution that caused the latter two.
- Ballister loses his arm, the same but different. In the movie, his arm is severed during the knighting ceremony. Bowed before the queen, he readies for her blessing.
- Goldenloin gets a new backstory and a more explicitly queer love story. Nimona the movie has a great emphasis on class conflict, positioning Ballister and Ambrosius on opposite sides of that divide.
- Nimona's backstory gets a makeover. In both versions, Nimona (voiced by Chloë Grace Moretz) gives Ballister a fictional account of her origin. In the movie, Nimona says it's a wishing well that gave her these incredible powers to shift her form as she pleases.
