One of Grazs most recognisable features and standing proudly in the centre of the city, the Schlossberg is a tree-covered hill that once served as a fortress and has now been converted into a public park.

    • Wander Around the Old Town. Graz’s extravagantly picturesque Old Town (Altstadt) conveys the atmosphere of the archetypal Austrian medieval city. Strolling amidst its cobblestone streets lined with gorgeous red-roofed old buildings and Baroque church spires is undoubtedly one of the best things to do in Graz.
    • Be Awed by the Beauty of the Main Square. Graz’s main square (Hauptplatz) is undeniably one of its must-see attractions. The square, which lies in the heart of the city, began as the main market square in the mid 12th century—a tradition it still maintains to this day.
    • Admire the City Hall. Located on the southern end of the main square, the majestic Graz City Hall (Grazer Rathaus) is truly a sight to behold. The history of the building reflects how Graz has prospered over the centuries.
    • Graz Cathedral. The Graz Cathedral (Domkirche) is undoubtedly one of the best things to see in Graz. The cathedral is a former castle church, built in the mid-15th century for Emperor Frederick III when Graz was an imperial city.
    • Old Town Graz. The UNESCO-designated Old Town center of Graz is filled with historical architecture, and is a pleasure to explore on foot. Highlights include the Hauptplatz, the Main Square, on the left bank of the River Mur.
    • Schlossberg and the Clock Tower. Above Old Town Graz rises the Schlossberg. This 473-meter-tall hill can be ascended by a funicular railway that takes just three minutes to get to the top.
    • The Styrian Armoury. Located on Graz's Herrengasse, the Styrian Armoury (Landeszeughaus) is, like many of the town's other top attractions, a part of the Universalmuseum Joanneum collection of museums.
    • The Landhaus and Courtyard. In the heart of Graz's pedestrian-friendly Old Town stands the majestic Landhaus, home to the Styrian provincial government.
    • Visit the Kunsthaus Graz, the modern art museum. The Kunsthaus Graz has become such an icon for the city and it is easy to see why. Nicknamed the ‘friendly alien’, the Kunsthaus Graz was built for the European Capital of Culture in 2003.
    • Take in the infamous Clock Tower. Another icon in the city of Graz is the Clock Tower at the top of Schlossberg. No matter where you are in the city you can see the Clock Tower towering above.
    • Climb to the top of the Schlossberg. When I was in Graz I was addicted to the Schlossberg, so much so I climbed up here three times in two days. Even though there are stairs to the top of the Schlossberg, I’d really recommend paying the €1.30 ticket to take the lift.
    • Dine at Restaurant Aiola at the Schlossberg. One of the best restaurants in Graz is at the top of the Schlossberg – Aiola. This place has the most gorgeous views of the city, especially around dusk and once the city lights are being turned on.
    • Schlossberg. Are you looking for the best views of Graz? Then, go to Schlossberg, a hill that towers over the city. The best way to get here is to take the Schlossbergbahn funicular, especially if you've got a city transport pass, as then it's free.
    • Altstadt. Altstadt, or Old Town, of Graz, is a cozy and bustling place that captures the soul of Austria's second city and should be on your list of things to do in Graz as it is easily walkable.
    • Schloss Eggenberg. If you're into castles and history, the Schloss Eggenberg should be on your list of interesting things to do in Graz. This World Heritage site will transport you back in time with its meticulously preserved staterooms that you can explore via a one-hour guided tour.
    • Hauptplatz. This UNESCO World Heritage-designated square is not only historically significant but also full of modern-day life. Trams connect you to the square, making it easily accessible for travelers.
