The origins of Hamster & Gretel the series began during the production of Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe, when Dan Povenmire doodled a sketch of a superhero hamster while brainstorming ideas for the movie (which was subsequently posted online on June 18, 2019). When Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe began wrapping up, Dan Povenmire was called in to pitch a new show idea.
