    Important: To access this feature you must have Voice Match.This provides hands-free help on your Assistant-enabled phone, tablet, or smartwatch when you say "Hey Google."

    You can use a speaker or Smart Display with Google Assistant built-in.

    1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Assistant app .

    2. If Google Assistant is off, you’ll get the option to turn it on. At the bottom, tap Turn on.

    1. On most Assistant-enabled devices, say "Hey Google, open Assistant settings."

    • Alternatively, open the Google Assistant app and say, “Assistant settings.”

    2. Under "All settings," tap General.

    • Tip: If you're signed in to a Google Workspace for Education account on your device and can't turn on "Hey Google," the admin might have turned off settings that are needed for "Hey Google" to work. Contact your admin for more details.

    4. To set up a Voice Match, follow the prompts so Google Assistant can recognize when you say “Hey Google.”

    • If you don't find "Hey Google," turn on Google Assistant.

    On Android phones running Android 5.0 and up, you can use your voice to talk to Google Assistant even when your phone is locked.

    1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Assistant app and say, “Assistant settings.”

    2. Under "Popular settings," tap Hey Google & Voice Match.

    3. Turn on Hey Google.

    • If you don't find "Hey Google," turn on Google Assistant.

    You can use Voice Match on your headphones to talk to Google Assistant when you're connected to an Android phone or tablet. You can teach Google Assistant to recognize your voice with Voice Match and  use voice commands to get personal results. You can use Voice Match with your headphones, even if it’s turned off on your phone.

    Important: Voice Match isn’t available on all devices. Your device’s instruction manual or packaging can tell you if your headphones support Voice Match.

    Your Assistant listens for “Hey Google” or “Ok Google” spoken in an accent similar to your primary Assistant language. For example, if your primary Assistant language is set to Spanish, your Assistant listens for the "Hey Google" or "OK Google" as it would be spoken with a Spanish accent.

    Important: Voice Match on your headphones might not be available in all Google Assistant languages supported by your phone.

    • If you say “Hey Google” or “Ok Google” while you wear your headphones, Google Assistant responds in your headphones, even if there is another Google Assistant device nearby.

    • If more than one device responds, make sure that you have linked the same Google Accounts on your phone and other devices.

    • If you want to talk to another device while you wear headphones, include the device name while you say your command. For example, you can say "Play music on the living room speaker."

    • If that doesn’t work, you can take your headphones off to say a command to another device.
