HMS Sheffield was one of the Southampton sub class of the Town-class cruisers of the Royal Navy during the Second World War. She took part in actions against several major German warships. Unlike most Royal Navy ships of her time, her fittings were constructed from stainless steel instead of the more traditional brass.

HMS Sheffield (C24) (1936) – a Town-class light cruiser which saw service in World War II from the Arctic Circle and the Atlantic to the Mediterranean. She was one of the Royal Navy pursuit ships that tracked down the German battleship Bismarck. She was sold and scrapped in 1967.

Apr 19, 2021 · HMS Sheffield: 1942. Possibly the most active of all the ‘Town’ class cruisers, Sheffield commenced her wartime service as part of 18CS with the Home Fleet. She was heavily committed to search and interception patrols during this period, also deploying occasionally with the fleet.
HMS Sheffield was a Type 42 guided missile destroyer and the second Royal Navy ship to be named after the city of Sheffield in Yorkshire. Commissioned on 16 February 1975 the Sheffield was part of the Task Force 317 sent to the Falkland Islands during the Falklands War.
Sep 29, 2017 · Around 2215A/20, the German merchant Gloria (5896 GRT, built 1917) is intercepted north off Iceland in position 66°30'N, 22°05'W by the British light cruiser HMS Sheffield (Capt. E. de F. Renouf, CVO, RN). A prize crew was put on board around 1100A/21 which then took the German vessel to Kirkwall. 21 Oct 1939
May 5, 2022 · Designed by artist Peter Naylor, the monument recreates a warship’s bows cutting through the waves. The sea is framed by a pentagon with rope detailing as used in the wartime cruiser’s crest. The words of dedication are etched and positioned on the rear sloping face: ‘SHINY SHEFF’.
