The way I see it is that in the final scene, that's our good boy Chris, and the purpose of the whole scene is to demonstrate that although the real danger has passed, the paranoia never will. There will always be a heavy doubt as to the true identity of the closest people in their lives.
Spoiler alert if anyone hasn't seen it, probably stop now. To me, the movie was about the horror that can be conformity, especially when you see someone you love changing who they are to the point you no longer recognize them.
