Sep 15, 2022 · This view is from the Beachwood Canyon subdivision that the sign was initially built to advertise, back when it still said "Hollywoodland." The view is good from the intersection of Beachwood and Glen Holly. A block or so further up the street, you can get a clear view between the houses.

This is a great hike if visiting or new in town with excellent views of the Hollywood sign. At the top is a 360 degree view behind the famous sign. Visitors should use the Brush Canyon Trail from Canyon Drive, two blocks to the east of Beachwood Drive off Franklin, or Griffith Observatory.

The Hollywood Sign is located in Los Angeles, California, specifically on the southern slope of Mount Lee, which is part of the Santa Monica Mountains. The residential area of the city where it is located is Beachwood Canyon.
The hike to the Hollywood Sign starts in one of North America's largest urban parks, Griffith Park, located in Hollywood. Unlike other hikes, you don't have to park in a residential neighborhood or walk through a gated community. The hike starts inside Griffith Park, and has an official parking lot.
The Hollywood Sign, a world-famous landmark and symbol of Los Angeles’ prosperity and industry, has sat proudly atop the sun-kissed hills of Beachwood Canyon since 1923. The Sign debuted in 1923 as “Hollywoodland”: a $21,000 temporary billboard for the Hollywoodland real estate development at the end of Beachwood Canyon.
The Beachwood Canyon Stairs are in the historic Hollywoodland development (which the Hollywood sign famously advertises). This is a city walk through a neighborhood of Storybook-style houses, which, depending on how uptight you are, you will find either charming or tacky: French castles, Spanish villas, and Hansel-and-Gretel cottages are all here.
