She never had any sort of training growing up and was initially, most likely, the least qualified soldier to fight, yet none of that stopped her.
I hope that Shan-Yu gets an ability that allows him to challenge ready characters. It would represent his ability to consistently outwit and out maneuver his opponents -- well, before running into Mulan -- and be a great thematic win.
