Donhwamun Gate
Donhwamun Gate is the main gate at the entrance of Changdeokgung. It was originally built in 1412 during the twelfth year of the reign of King Taejong. Taejong was the third Joseon Dynasty king and ruled from 1400 to 1418. The gate was destroyed and set on fire by the Japanese during the Imjin War in 1592. Aug 10, 2020 · After Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung palaces, Changgyeonggung is the third palace left from Joseon dynasty. Initially, Gyeongbokgung was the primary while Changdeokgung – the second. But after a fire broke out in Gyeongbokgung and burnt down the biggest part, Changdeokgung became the main palace.

Although Gyeongbukung is Korea’s main Palace, Changdeokgung actually served as the main residence from the early 1600s-1800s. Unlike other palaces, Changdeokgung Palace works in harmony with nature, and the overall construction highlights the natural settings.
