Oct 6, 2022 · Cyst size and the number of its nuclei. Mature cysts of E. histolytica are smaller than those of Entamoeba coli and contain four nuclei, whereas E. coli cysts have eight nuclei. B. Antigen detection : detection of E.histolytica antigen in the stool
Apr 17, 2023 · Entamoeba histolytica is a protozoan that causes intestinal amebiasis as well as extraintestinal manifestations. Although 90 percent of E. histolytica infections are asymptomatic, nearly 50 million people become symptomatic, with about 100,000 deaths yearly.[1] Amebic infections are more prevalent in countries with lower socioeconomic conditions.[2]

Mature Entamoeba histolytica/Entamoeba dispar cysts have 4 nuclei that characteristically have centrally located karyosomes and fine, uniformly distributed peripheral chromatin. Cysts usually measure 12 to 15 µm.
Entamoeba coli cyst with more than four nuclei. The presence of E.coli is not cause in and of itself to seek treatment as it is considered harmless. However, when a person becomes infected with this benign entamoeba, other pathogenic organisms may have been introduced as well, and these other pathogens might cause infection or illness.
The E. histolytica genome contains a total of 11 members of cysteine protease binding family proteins and studying each will most likely reveal further insights into E. histolytica phagocytosis and virulence. Another recent study analyzed the M8 metalloprotease EhMSP-1 and its potential role in amebic tissue invasion .

Life Cycle. Fig. 1 . Figure 1. Life cycle of Entamoeba histolytica. 1 Cysts with 4 nuclei (i.e., metacysts) are ingested orally with contaminated food or drinking water ( A–C ). 2–4 After excysting in the small intestine, both the cytoplasm and nuclei divide to form 8 small amoebulae (i.e., metacystic trophozoites ). 5, 6 Mature ...
